Meet Our Doctors

  • Karen A. Walters, D.D.S., M.B.A
    General Dentist

    Dr. Walters is a native Texan who grew up in Pasadena. She attended San Jacinto Jr. College prior to graduating from the University of Texas School of Dental Hygiene in 1972. She soon realized how much she loved dentistry and went on to complete the requirements necessary for dental school at the University of Houston. Dr. Walters received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1978 from the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. The following year she completed a one-year general practice residency at Houston's Veterans Administration Hospital. 

    Dr. Walters is active in the dental community and has held many positions at the local (GHDS), state (TDA), and national (ADA) level. She has served as a Director, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer and President of the Greater Houston Dental Society and is currently on the Star Council. She is a past Vice-President of the SE Division on the TDA Board of Directors, and UT School of Dentistry Alumni Past President. Currently, she is a delegate to both the TDA and ADA House of Delegates.

    She was selected to be a fellow in the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists both of which have a selective membership limited to 2-3% of dentists worldwide.

    Dr. Walters has chaired several committees for The Star of The South Dental Meeting in Houston which provides quality continuing education relating to dentistry and received the Dr. Burton Kunik Award for outstanding volunteer and the Jack H. Harris Recognition Award. She and her team are committed to dentistry and stay current with topics related to patient care by exceeding the continuing education requirements mandated by the state.

    Dr. Walters and her husband Randy, have raised their four children: Ryan, Scott, Ashley, and Heather. The couple is extremely proud that three of their children and one daughters-in-law have all chosen careers in the healthcare field. They're especially excited that Ashley has followed in her mother's footsteps and has graduated from The University of Texas Dental School, has completed a General Practice Residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY, and joined the staff here at Cambridge Dental, Inc.

    Dr. Walters has enjoyed and appreciated serving the dental needs of her patients, whom she considers friends and family for over 35 years. She credits her success to the loyalty and continued referrals from her patients. She knows patients have a choice when choosing a dentist and she appreciates when she is chosen. She will always do everything possible to merit the confidence her patients have shown in her.

  • Ashley Marcks-Lazar, D.D.S.
    Associate Dentist

    Dr. Ashley Lazar was born and raised in Houston, where she attended Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, and then went to Texas A&M University and received a degree in Nutritional Sciences. After graduating early, she spent the next semester doing research at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

    Dr. Lazar is a 2014 graduate of the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, where she was active in multiple student organizations and outreach programs. She was vice president of Alpha Omega and the fundraising chair for Psi Omega. Dr. Lazar went on to complete a General Practice Residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. Dr. Lazar enjoys her professional memberships, which include the American Dental Association, The Texas Dental Association, the Greater Houston Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Lazar completed an implant residency program called the Maxi-course.  It is an in-depth review of surgical and restorative protocols for implants. It covers the spectrum of implant types and systems and the use of multiple types of implant systems. We are very excited to have D. Lazar brings this new technology to our practice. In 2020 Dr. Lazar received her Fellowship Award for the Academy of General Dentistry. This is a title that only 6% of general dentists achieve. She is currently president of the Houston Chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry.

    When she is not working she enjoys cycling, hiking, scuba diving and hanging out with her husband Steven and baby boy Jonah.

  • Kareem Metwalli, D.D.S.

    Dr. Kareem Metwalli was born and raised in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and moved to Houston, TX in 2011 to attend Rice University, where he received a degree in Environmental Engineering.

    Dr. Metwalli is a 2020 graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School and graduated with a Distinction in Research. He then went on to complete a residency program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry, also at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Metwalli is an active member of the American Dental Association, The Texas Dental Association, and the Greater Houston Dental Society.

    Dr. Metwalli has a passion for implant dentistry, a wide variety of surgical procedures, digital dentistry, as well as cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

    Dr. Metwalli is also fluent in Arabic and when he’s not working, he enjoys hiking, golfing and spending quality time with friends and family.
